APARDO member IORD (India Organisation for Rare Diseases) marked World Rare Disease Day this year with a landmark event in Hyderabad, India, held on 28 February 2026. Organized in collaboration with L.V. Prasad Eye Institute and Rainbow Hospitals, this year's conference took a focused turn; dedicating its programme entirely to Rare Ophthalmic Disorders, a first in the event's 15-year history of addressing over 7,000 rare diseases.
The event drew strong media attention and featured the premiere of a short film, "I Am Not Alone", directed by Muralidhar Indrakanti, which highlights critical gaps in genetic services and comprehensive eye care across India.
